As their influence expanded, they established manufacturing facilities in Switzerland, the Virgin Islands, New York, and Providence. Their growth was further propelled by the acquisition of prestigious watch brands, including Hampden Watch in the mid-1950s and Benrus Watch in the 1980s. Amid this extensive expansion, the essence of their business remained rooted in Chicago, where they tirelessly crafted exceptional watches.

HAMPDEN MODEL 1: Sullivan

 

The world's first-ever customizable and removable caseback.

 

Introduced in 2024, Hampden Watch Co. is proud to announce the Model 1: Sullivan watch. This exceptional timepiece combines innovative design with timeless craftsmanship. The Hampden Model 1 features the world’s first customizable and removable caseback. Their patent-pending innovation reveals the Swiss movement while enabling effortless switching between the sapphire exhibition case back and a solid caseback with a personalized design option.

 

The Hampden Model 1 is an automatic watch powered by a Swiss movement, a custom Sellita caliber 279-1 self-winding mechanism with ball bearing rotor and stop second device (hack mechanism). It features 31 jewels, date indicator (quick setting), power reserve indicator, small second hand, 38-hour power reserve and 28,800bph.

 

The Model 1 is available in three distinct dial colors: Carbon, Parchment, and Navy. It features a matte dial with a sun-ray embossed seconds sub-dial at the 9 o’clock position, along with a deep red power reserve sub-dial register at the 6 o’clock position. Polished nickel Arabic numerals serve as the applied index, complemented by a printed seconds track and white Super-LumiNova® Grade A on the hour markers, minute hand, and hour hand. The date window is conveniently located at the 3 o’clock position.

 

This fine movement cased in a 42mm round Stainless-Steel case, measuring 51mm lug-to-lug and 22mm between lugs. The crystal is sapphire with an anti-reflective coating and the exhibition caseback is sapphire as well. Water resistant to 5ATM / 50M.  Engine-turned coin edge fixed bezel with an oversized retro-style crown.

 

It comes on a brushed and polished 22mm three-link stainless steel bracelet with a deployant clasp, featuring a quick-release mechanism for easy removal. Additionally, the Hampden Model 1 includes two interchangeable straps: an Italian leather strap and a leather/polyurethane strap. Both can be effortlessly swapped out using quick-release mechanisms—no tools required.

 

The Model 1 features an exhibition caseback that beautifully showcases the precision of its jeweled Swiss movement. Additionally, it includes a solid caseback, which is the world’s first-ever customizable and removable caseback.

How it Works:

- Select and purchase your Hampden watch model.

- During or after your purchase, we will schedule a 1:1 appointment with a Second Hand Horology consultant to create your custom caseback, upload your own text or imagery, or choose from one of our pre-designed caseback options. 

- Hampden begins the custom engraving process and once it's complete, it will be shipped.
