To commemorate the 100th anniversary of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Mayan Revival masterpiece, Ennis House, Bulova expands its collection honoring the legendary architect’s work with a new men’s timepiece.

 

Frank Lloyd Wright, the famous American architect. He was also a designer, writer, and educator. “Wright gained such cultural primacy for good reason: he changed the way we build and live.” Designing 1,114 architectural works of all types — 532 of which were realized — he created some of the most innovative spaces in the United States. With a career that spanned seven decades before his death in 1959.

 

The Ennis House—a veritable Hollywood icon, with over 80 screen appearances—was built in 1924 in Los Angeles and it is the last and largest of Wright’s four Los Angeles-area “textile block” houses. Perched atop a hill in the Los Feliz neighborhood, it is among the best residential examples of Mayan Revival architecture in the country.

 

The Ennis House rises in stages, with over 27,000 blocks arranged across a concrete platform and buttressed by a retaining wall. Though concrete was still considered a new material in the 1920s, especially for home construction, Wright believed it had promising potential for affordable housing. He created a block construction system with patterned surfaces, which lended a unique textural appearance to both the exteriors and interiors of his residences. 

 

Released in December 2023, as part of Bulova’s Frank Lloyd Wright collection, this limited-edition wristwatch, just 1,500 numbered examples. It is a 3-hand quartz watch, caliber 2039, a movement powered by a battery. The quartz crystal regulates the time achieving accuracy to 15 seconds a month.

 

The 27,000 granite blocks resemble the ancient temples of Mesoamerica, Bulova has channeled this aesthetic into a geometric case with a sapphire crystal with a laser etching of Ennis House on the caseback. On the gray silver-tone dial, the textured medallion replicates the pattern found on the decorated granite blocks and features silver-tone hour markers and a matching handset, include a second-hand with a special counterbalance found on all the timepieces in the collection.

 

Cased in a 34mm square case all stainless steel and curved sapphire. 30M water resistant. The fine calf leather strap is debossed with the home’s design and features a 3-piece closure.

 

This special limited edition is delivered in special packaging including a limited-edition card and a Frank Lloyd Wright Collection storybook. The perfect watch for those with impeccable style, this men’s Bulova timepiece will be at home on any wrist.
