Watch Overview
Offered here is a vintage Omega Speedmaster Professional Mark III automatic chronograph, reference 176.002, dating to approximately 1972 based on the movement serial number. Introduced in 1971, the Mark III represents an important evolution of the Speedmaster line and was among the earliest automatic chronographs produced by Omega.
The watch features the distinctive tonneau-shaped stainless steel case design typical of early 1970s Omega sports watches. Its bold lugless case profile curves naturally around the wrist and reflects the futuristic design language of the period.
This model is powered by the original Omega caliber 1040 automatic chronograph movement, based on the Lemania 1340 architecture. The movement contains 22 jewels and features a central chronograph seconds hand and central chronograph minute hand, a 12-hour counter at 6 oâclock, a small seconds subdial combined with a 24-hour indicator at 9 oâclock, and a date display at 3 oâclock. The movement beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers an approximate power reserve of 44 hours.
The sunburst blue dial features applied hour markers, luminous hands and indexes, and a contrasting chronograph minute hand with a distinctive orange âjetâ shaped tip. The outer dial ring includes a tachymeter scale with a detailed minute track, reinforcing the Speedmasterâs motorsport heritage.
The watch is housed in a 42mm stainless steel tonneau case with pump chronograph pushers, a signed Omega crown, and a screw-down case back featuring the iconic Omega hippocampus medallion. It is fitted with its original stainless steel Omega bracelet.
The watch remains in very good vintage condition, fully inspected and authenticated by our in-house watchmaker, and is running accurately.
