The Story
Watch Overview
Offered here is an iconic pre-moon Omega Speedmaster Professional "Moonwatch," reference 145.012-67 SP, dating to circa 1968. Produced just before the historic Apollo era, this reference represents the final generation of Speedmaster models powered by the legendary Omega caliber 321, making it one of the most historically important and collectible versions of the Speedmaster line.
The Speedmaster earned its place in history when it was officially flight-qualified by NASA in 1965 for all manned space missions. Watches of this generation were used throughout the Apollo program, including during the era of the Apollo 11 Moon landing in 1969.
The reference 145.012 is particularly notable as it was the last Speedmaster reference fitted with the caliber 321 before Omega transitioned to the caliber 861 around 1968. Astronaut-issued Speedmasters during the Apollo 11 mission included this reference, worn during the mission alongside the earlier reference 105.012.
This example is powered by the renowned Omega caliber 321, a manual-wind column-wheel chronograph movement based on the Lemania 2310/CH27 C12 design. Produced until 1968, the caliber 321 is widely regarded as one of the most important chronograph movements ever made and remains highly sought after by collectors due to its traditional architecture and historical connection to the early space missions.
The watch is housed in the classic 42mm unpolished stainless steel case with tachymeter bezel and features the iconic black dial with luminous hour markers and the familiar tri-compax chronograph layout that defines the Speedmaster Professional. The tachymeter bezel features the desirable âDot Over 90â (DON) configuration, a detail associated with early Speedmaster models.
During this period, Omega produced two main Speedmaster references with the caliber 321: the 105.012 and the later 145.012. While both share similar case dimensions and design, the 145.012 introduced subtle movement updates and represents the final chapter of the caliber 321 era before Omega adopted the next generation of chronograph movements.
Fully inspected and authenticated by our in-house watchmaker, this timepiece runs accurately and is ready to wear and enjoy.
