Tiffany & Co.
Founded in 1837 by Charles Lewis Tiffany and John B. Young in New York City as a stationery and fancy goods store. The company’s original name was "Tiffany, Young and Ellis" before it was shortened to Tiffany & Co.
Tiffany’s early focus was on high-end goods such as stationery, china, and silverware. By 1845, Tiffany revolutionized the world of retail by introducing the first-ever mail-order catalog in the United States, giving customers the ability to view the company’s products remotely.
The company established a Swiss watchmaking division in Geneva in 1874, further cementing its reputation for precision timekeeping. Tiffany has a rich history of working with the world’s finest Swiss watchmakers. Over the decades, the company collaborated with renowned manufacturers, including Patek Philippe, Universal Genève, Movado, and Concord.
Concord Watch Company was founded in 1908 in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland. It specialized in producing high-quality luxury dress watches and private-label timepieces for prestigious retailers, including Tiffany & Co. Concord gained prominence for its slim, elegant designs and later became a pioneer in ultra-thin quartz movements during the 1970s.
The collaboration between Tiffany & Co. and Concord was most prominent in the mid-20th century, particularly in the 1940s–1980s. During this period, Tiffany & Co. commissioned Concord to produce elegant Swiss-made timepieces that were sold under the Tiffany brand. These watches combined Concord’s watchmaking expertise with Tiffany’s luxurious design aesthetics.
