The Story

1934 ELGIN
Doctor’s Watch
15 Jewels
U.S.A. Made
Wristwatch

Super RARE and UNIQUE timepiece, this is a vintage ELGIN doctor’s wristwatch reference 1117 and dated from 1934. What makes this watch special is that it has an early sweep second-hand complication that is often associated with pulse count, favorite of doctors and nurses.

This beautiful watch is very similar to the "Elgin 'William Osler' doctor’s wristwatch" in the same era. They both watches share the same movement that features an early sweep seconds complication. The difference is on the dial design, William Osler doctor’s watch has a large circle seconds register instead of rectangle seconds register centered on the main dial.

It is a manual wind watch powered by an original Elgin movement, caliber grade 522, 15 jewels, 18/0 size, sweep-second configuration, U.S.A. made.

Still the original white dial featuring bold Arabic Numerals, “railroad” minute track and blue steel matching hands. Also, the dial features the unique rectangle second “railroad” second track and the unique blue steel sweep-second hand with the red arrow. The dial is signed with the Elgin name/logo as well.

Cased in a slim and elegant 21.3x31.8mm rectangle case with fancy lug design, all in 14K yellow gold filled. This watch comes on a vintage Bretton expansion bracelet, 12K yellow gold filled top and stainless steel.

It is still in good condition. It runs very well and keeps great time.

Vintage watches are traditionally smaller than today's watches. Men’s watches typically measure between 29-36mm wide (some larger, some smaller) excluding the crown. In the listing details we typically try to do our best to list all pertinent dimensions of a watch. If you don't see it, or we failed to do so, please reach out to us. Women’s watches from the 1900s-1970s were also much smaller than today's offerings. Please also feel free to ask any questions you have pertaining to size.

We prefer to shoot photographs outside when weather is permitting. However, when we shoot indoors, please be aware that we shoot our photographs inside of lightboxes that are lit with 360 LED bulbs. This indeed magnifies any flaws. Usually, they are much less obvious to the naked eye. Having said that, we never photoshop any of our photography, remove blemishes, etc. We adjust lighting when necessary, but what you see is what you are getting, and we take pride in that.

The condition is pre-owned.
The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear but is fully operational and functions as intended.
Please review the photos and feel free to ask any questions you may have.

It will be carefully packed.
