The Story
“Elgin, The Watchword for Elegance and Efficiency.”
1930 Elgin Tank Watch
14K White Gold Filled
Cal. Grade 489 – Art Deco Era
This is an antique timepiece: a vintage Elgin wristwatch, dated from 1930.
It is a manual-wind men's wristwatch powered by the original Elgin mechanical movement, caliber 489, featuring 17 jewels, sub-second dial, 34-hour power reserve, and operating at 18,000 vph. Made in U.S.A.
From the Art Deco era, this watch is housed in a tank-style case, measuring approximately 27.6 x 31.8 mm. The case is 14K white gold filled, with beautiful Art Deco engraved details on both the case and lugs, showcasing the era’s elegant geometric style.
The watch retains its original champagne dial (showing some age) with black and silver Arabic numerals, a bold minute railroad track, and matching gold-tone hands. The sub-second register is located at the 6 o’clock position. The dial is clearly signed Elgin on top.
It comes with a brand-new Hadley-Roma black genuine leather strap, in a classic two-piece design, adding comfort and completing its vintage charm.
After nearly a century, this Elgin remains a charming and wearable piece of American watchmaking history. It is ideal for collectors, vintage style enthusiasts, or anyone looking for a unique timepiece with real character and legacy.
It is still in good working condition, running smoothly and keeping accurate time!

Vintage watches are traditionally smaller than today's watches. Men’s watches typically measure between 29-36mm wide (some larger, some smaller) excluding the crown. In the listing details we typically try to do our best to list all pertinent dimensions of a watch. If you don't see it, or we failed to do so, please reach out to us. Women’s watches from the 1900s-1970s were also much smaller than today's offerings. Please also feel free to ask any questions you have concerning size.
We prefer to take photographs outdoors when the weather allows. However, when shooting indoors, please note that we use lightboxes equipped with 360 LED bulbs, which can magnify any flaws that may be less noticeable to the naked eye. That said, we never use Photoshop to alter our images or remove blemishes. While we may adjust the lighting as needed, what you see is what you get, and we take pride in that.
The condition is pre-owned.
The item may show some signs of cosmetic wear, but it is fully operational, and functions as intended.
Please take a moment to review the photos, and don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions you may have.
The item will be carefully packed for shipment.
