Today, we present a truly collectible timepiece: a vintage Elgin Railroad pocket watch, dated 1904.

 

This manual-wind pocket watch is powered by the original Elgin Watch Co. mechanical movement grade 274. It features 21 jewels, and a lever-set mechanism designed for railroad use. This is a Model 9, Class 99, Size 18s pocket watch, with a run quantity of just 1,000 pieces and a total grade/model production of only 4,000 units. The movement is adjusted for five positions and temperature, ensuring railroad-grade accuracy. It includes a sub-second’s dial and was proudly made in the U.S.A.

 

It is housed in a 54mm round hunter case, crafted in 14K yellow gold-filled metal, featuring a coin-edge design and a double-hinged back (cuvette). The crown is located at the 3 o’clock position.

 

The original white ceramic dial features bold black Breguet numerals, a precise black railroad minute track, and large blued steel hands for excellent legibility, vital for timekeeping in railroad service. The sub-second dial at 6 o’clock is marked in 10-second intervals. The dial is signed “Elgin” at the top.

 

Now more than 120 years old, this watch remains in excellent working condition, running smoothly and keeping accurate time.
