Bunn Special Railroad
Pocket Watch
10K G.F.
Â
Another beautiful, antique, and highly collectible timepiece: a vintage Illinois Bunn Special Railroad pocket watch from 1899, in excellent condition both inside and out. The Illinois Bunn Special is one of the most iconic railroad pocket watches ever made.
Â
This manual-wind pocket watch features the original Illinois Watch Co. mechanical movement, grade Bunn Special, with 24 jewels and a lever-set mechanism designed for railroad use. It is a model 6, size 18s, with a run quantity of just 300 and a total grade/model production of 76,418. The movement is adjusted to six positions and temperature, includes a sub-second hand, and was proudly crafted in the U.S.A.
Â
The original white ceramic dial, showing light patina, features bold black Breguet numerals, a precise black railroad minute track, and elegant blue steel hand, designed for maximum clarity and accuracy, vital for railroad service. The sub-seconds dial at 6 o’clock is marked in 10-second intervals. The dial is beautifully signed "Illinois Watch Co." at the top.
Â
With a classic open-face design, the watch is housed in a 54.8mm round 10K yellow gold-filled case, featuring a screw-on crystal cover and caseback. The case is finished with detailed and elegant engravings.
Â
This antique Illinois railroad pocket watch is still running strong and keeping excellent time, even after more than 125 years. A timeless piece of American horological history and addition to any collection.
Â
Please note: The pocket watch holder is not included in the purchase.

Vintage watches are traditionally smaller than today's watches. Men’s watches typically measure between 29-36mm wide (some larger, some smaller) excluding the crown. In the listing details we typically try to do our best to list all pertinent dimensions of a watch. If you don't see it, or we failed to do so, please reach out to us. Women’s watches from the 1900s-1970s were also much smaller than today's offerings. Please also feel free to ask any questions you have concerning size.
Â
We prefer to take photographs outdoors when the weather allows. However, when shooting indoors, please note that we use lightboxes equipped with 360 LED bulbs, which can magnify any flaws that may be less noticeable to the naked eye. That said, we never use Photoshop to alter our images or remove blemishes. While we may adjust the lighting as needed, what you see is what you get, and we take pride in that.
The condition is pre-owned. Â
The item may show some signs of cosmetic wear, but it is fully operational, and functions as intended.
Please take a moment to review the photos, and don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions you may have. Â
